Departmental Overview

Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences was established in August, 2025. The department has qualified, trained, and skilled manpower who train the students on the nutritional and metabolic aspects of farm animals.

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Ghazi University, Dera Ghazi Khan, is dedicated to excellence in education, research, innovation, and community service in the fields of animal production and health. Situated in the livestock-rich region of South Punjab, the Department seeks to address the growing national and global demand for skilled professionals capable of advancing sustainable livestock development, food security, and rural prosperity.

The Department offers undergraduate education in Animal Science (BS Animal Sciences) and provides students with a comprehensive understanding of animal nutrition, breeding and genetics, livestock and poultry production, reproduction, animal health, forage and rangeland management, animal products technology, and agribusiness management. The curriculum combines fundamental scientific knowledge with practical and field-based training to prepare graduates for professional careers and higher education.

In line with its commitment to academic excellence and the evolving needs of Pakistan's livestock sector, the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is expanding its academic portfolio by offering an M.Phil. in Animal Nutrition. The program is designed to develop highly qualified professionals and researchers with advanced knowledge and practical expertise in animal nutrition, feed science, and sustainable livestock production.

The M.Phil. Animal Nutrition program provides rigorous training in nutritional biochemistry, ruminant and non-ruminant nutrition, feed evaluation and formulation, forage conservation, nutritional physiology, precision feeding systems, feed safety and quality assurance, and emerging nutritional technologies. Students will gain hands-on experience in laboratory techniques, feed analysis, experimental design, statistical methods, and interdisciplinary research.

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is also committed to strengthening the technical workforce of Pakistan's livestock sector through the Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD) program. The diploma is designed to produce competent para-veterinary professionals equipped with practical knowledge and skills in animal husbandry, primary animal healthcare, breeding, nutrition, disease prevention, vaccination, dairy and poultry management, and livestock extension services.

The LAD program emphasizes hands-on training, field exposure, and community engagement, enabling graduates to serve as an effective link between livestock farmers and veterinary professionals. Diploma holders play a vital role in improving animal productivity, supporting disease surveillance and control, promoting good husbandry practices, and enhancing the livelihoods of rural farming communities.

Aligned with national development priorities and global initiatives, the Department embraces the principles of sustainable agriculture and the One Health approach, recognizing the interconnectedness of animal, human, and environmental health.
